Olivia Wilde makes her directorial debut with Booksmart, where two straight-A students who are lined up to attend top tier colleges want to leave high school with a bang.
The two best friends, Amy and Molly, played by Short Term 12 & Detroit‘s Kaitlyn Dever and Lady Bird‘s Beanie Feldstein, decide to crash a last-day-of-school party and as we see in the newly released red band trailer for the film, plenty of hijinx ensue.
The release of the trailer follows its premiere last night at the SXSW Festival where it seems to have received a very positive response. The film gives off a wild coming of age vibe that seems reminiscent of Superbad, just from a female perspective (a little similar to last year’s Blockers). Along with some fresh-faced young actors, the cast also includes Wilde’s husband Jason Sudeikis, Lisa Kudrow, and Will Forte.
Booksmart will be released by Annapurna Pictures on May 24.
