Timothée Chalamet looks to keep his momentum going strong post-Call Me By Your Name with Hot Summer Nights, his latest starring role which just happens to be another movie about a life-changing summer.
Written and directed by first-timer Elijah Bynum, Hot Summer Nights follows Chalamet, playing a teenager who is sent away to spend the summer of 1991 in Cape Cod, where he gets tangled up in the web of local drug dealer Hunter (Alex Roe), falls in love with the beautiful McKayla (It Follows & The Guest‘s Maika Monroe) and seems to get in way over his head trying to help grow Hunter’s weed enterprise.
It looks like a wild ride full of humor, a dark edge, and some really great cinematography. There’s also some pretty good use of Beck’s “I’m So Free.” Being released by A24, we trust that this will be every bit as entertaining as advertised. It will be released in theaters on July 27, following a June 28 release on DirecTV.
