With 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Warner Brothers, JK Rowling, and David Yates had a hit on their hands with the prequel to/continuation of the Harry Potter universe. Now, just about 2 years later, they’re returning with a sequel: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
That being said, they’ve dropped the first Crimes of Grindelwald teaser trailer with a new production logo (Wizarding World), some hints of what’s to come, young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law with a very short beard by comparison), a brief return to Hogwarts, and very little Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), thankfully.
Following up on its predecessor, The Crimes of Grindelwald finds magizoologist and former Dumbledore student Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) recruited by Dumbledore to track down the escaped Grindelwald and prevent a pure-blood wizard uprising. Along the way, Newt is reunited with Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol), Jacob (Dan Fogler), and his coterie of magical creatures, among others.
Take a look at the first teaser trailer, and let us know what you think! What are you looking forward to most about the sequel? Do you wish Grindelwald had been recast? What about a little more diversity in the Wizarding World? It looks like we may be getting some of the latter, but we’ll see when the film is released.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters November 16, and the cast also includes Brontis Jodorowsky, Carmen Ejogo, Claudia Kim, Ezra Miller, and Jessica Williams.
