After releasing Side Effects and Behind the Candelabra in 2013, director Steven Soderbergh claimed he had retired from feature filmmaking and opted to explore the possibilities of making movie-quality content on TV instead. Thankfully, Soderbergh has pulled a Michael Jordan and has swiftly returned from his retirement, coming back this year with Logan Lucky, which looks like it could be a real winner.
The Logan siblings, Jimmy (Channing Tatum), Clyde (Adam Driver) and Mellie (Riley Keough), are desperate to reverse their family curse. They try to do so by putting in motion an elaborate heist during Memorial Day weekend (hence the timely trailer drop). Today, the first trailer has been released, and it looks as entertaining as the whacky plot promised.
It has Soderbergh’s similar stamp on it, featuring a strange but awesomely eclectic cast who all seem to be having a blast in their respective roles. The cast also includes Daniel Craig, Hilary Swank, Katherine Waterson, Katie Holmes, Seth MacFarlane, Macon Blair and Jim O’Heir. Craig in particular looks to be cutting loose from his James Bond time here, playing an expert bank robber who they need to break out of prison. The fact that the trailer has him billed as “introducing” is a sign that there’s a good sense of humor at work here.
Logan Lucky looks like one hell of a good time. Find the trailer posted below.
Logan Lucky will be released in theaters by Bleecker Street on August 18.
