Trailer: ‘Blade Runner 2049’

In advance of unspooling in front of Alien: Covenant, the theatrical trailer for Blade Runner 2049 is here!

Last week, the official social media accounts dropped two new posters (one of Ryan Gosling’s Agent K and one of Harrison Ford’s Deckard), an announcement for a Facebook Live Q&A on Monday, and a short trailer tease featuring a bloodied Ryan Gosling (who has been putting in some good work delivering and receiving film beatdowns in the last 7 years). And during the Q&A, the full theatrical trailer dropped.

The original Blade Runner, released in 1982, needs no introduction. It’s one of the most influential sci-fi films ever made, and holds a special place in many a film geeks’ heart. There’s a lot of pressure for Blade Runner 2049 to live up to the original, surely not an easy task.

Based on the new trailer that they released today, it looks like they’re aiming just as big. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (hot off of the release of Arrival, a much smaller, but equally riveting sci-fi film), Blade Runner 2049 sees Ryan Gosling playing a new character named Officer K, as well as Harrison Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard. We’re given a glimpse to the birth of a replicant, overseen by a creepy character played by Jared Leto, who looks to be blind and is a safe bet to be the villain. There are also glimpses of characters played by Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, MacKenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, and Dave Bautista.

With Villeneuve at the helm and the legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins behind the camera, along with the tag-team duo of Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford merging the past with the present, we have high hopes for Blade Runner 2049.
