After EW released some first look images several weeks back, Marvel and Thor fans have been waiting for a teaser trailer. Wait no more!
Set to the fitting Led Zeppelin track “The Immigrant Song” and with 80s VHS-inspired titles to boot, the first Thor: Ragnarok teaser trailer promises destruction, vengeance, humor, and hairstyle changes a-plenty … and Jeff Goldblum and Cate Blanchett relishing their roles. See for yourself!
So Thor: Ragnarok follows the exiled Thor (a shorn Chris Hemsworth) on a cosmic road trip to prevent Ragnarok and the downfall of Asgard at the hands of the returned Hela (Cate Blanchett rocking a bit of a Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa vibe). However, he first has to face work friend/colleague Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in the Grandmaster’s (Jeff Goldblum) arena on Sakaar. And, I’m assuming, recruit Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson in between Creed, Westworld, and Annihilation) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston with flowing curls) before getting help from Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to find Odin (Anthony Hopkins).
I, personally, liked the first two Thor films, and I’m eager to see what else director Taika Waititi is bringing to the franchise, apart from the splashes of color and 80s sci-fi space-age vibe. I don’t, though, know what to expect from first-time feature writer Eric Pearson. He’s already part of the Marvel brain trust (having written several of the MCU one-shots for the Phase 1 DVD releases and some episodes of Agent Carter), so I’m sure he’s versed enough in the character and franchise lore. Maybe his writing will mesh well with Waititi’s style – and based on some of the beats in this first teaser, I have the feeling that the pairing and the film will knock it out of the park. As for the rest of the film, I’m waiting to see how certain plot points (and likely twists) will play out.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
