Trailer #2: ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Spider-Man: Homecoming - Coney Island fight

With three months to go until its release, Marvel and Sony dropped a new trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. It only made sense, considering the teaser poster trio released in the last week.

In light of the first trailer dropping on Jimmy Kimmel Live, this latest one was released via social media instead like the above posters. And that’s better than staying up until 12:30 AM Eastern or so to catch a trailer premiere and then do a write-up. Anyway, the trailer.

This second trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming takes the first and turns it on its head. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) isn’t just a high school student – he’s also your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man *wink wink*. And once Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) goes on a rampage as The Vulture, Peter sees that it’s up to him to stop Toomes without help from Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), but a flubbed attempt at heroism results in Stark taking away the Spidey suit. So now it’s up to Peter to cobble together his own suit and save the day while taking down The Vulture and his henchmen Herman Schultz/Shocker (Bokeem Woodbine) and Phineas Mason/Tinkerer (Michael Chernus).

Based on a few things I’ve read in terms of a synopsis, what sets off Toomes and his salvage crew is Stark’s decision to form Damage Control, a company from the Marvel world that cleans up after hero-villain battles. What better way to make money than to have the in-house group clean up after the messes your battles create? Anyway, Stark and Damage Control take Toomes’ business of salvaging alien weapons (i.e., Chitauri tech from The Avengers), so Toomes blows a fuse, assembles his crew, and starts threatening New York City as The Vulture to get revenge. However, there’s no word on if this Damage Control ties into the Marvel and ABC put pilot order from 2015.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7, 2017 with Jon Watts directing a cast that also includes Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Jon Favreau, Kenneth Choi, and Hannibal Buress, among others.
