The 2017 Oscar Nominees Are In

2017 Oscar nominees featured

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did something a little different this year to announce the 2017 Oscar nominees.

Instead of a podium with rotating announcers in front of a crowd of journalists, they assembled a cast of notable winners to announce the nominees in a pre-recorded live-stream … and the nominees were a little surprising.

If it isn’t already obvious from the long list of Oscar nominees below, Mel Gibson and Hacksaw Ridge got more love than they did at the Golden Globes (six nominations), along with Hell or High Water (four nominations) and Hidden Figures (three nominations). The fan-favored Deadpool is nowhere in sight, and Manchester By The Sea only netted six nominations, compared to the five it got at the Globes. And, of course, it’s no surprise that La La Land is nominated in 13 of the 24 categories (twice in Best Song). At least the Actor/Actress categories are a little more diverse (thanks to Denzel Washington, Ruth Negga, Mahershala Ali, Dev Patel, Viola Davis, Naomie Harris, and Octavia Spencer).
