Trailer #2: ‘Wonder Woman’

Following the SDCC trailer back in July, WB and DC has deigned to grace audiences with a new Wonder Woman trailer.

The strangest thing of all – no pun intended – is that it’s dropping in front of Doctor Strange in US multiplexes, according to Screenrant. But without further ado, presenting the latest Wonder Woman trailer!

Right off the bat, there are plenty of beautifully lensed sequences, like Steve Trevor’s (Chris Pine) plane crash, the beach battle between Allied troops and Amazons on horseback, and several quick cuts from fight sequences and Wonder Woman on the battlefield. Matthew Jensen’s DP work shows, as he’s previously worked on Game of Thrones and Ray Donovan, among other projects. There are, of course, several moments of Zack Snyder darkness and trademark slo-mo, but I’m willing to let it slide, as he only contributed to the story and production.

The trailer does a good job of laying out the basic plot – Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) leaves the island of Themyscira with Steve Trevor and his Allied rescuers, driven by the news of the on-going World War I. However, darker forces are siding with Germany – the unnamed general played by Danny Huston and the partially masked unnamed scientist played by Elena Anaya – and it’s up to Wonder Woman to stop them. Who are these unnamed characters? ComicBook.com is strongly favoring Ares for Huston and Dr. Poison for Anaya, as both are long-standing characters in Wonder Woman lore. But I’m fine to let the mystery marinate until the film’s release is a few months away.

Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2, 2017 with Patty Jenkins directing a script by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns.
