Just over a week after dropping the first full season of Luke Cage, Marvel and Netflix are already teasing the series premiere of Iron Fist with a proper trailer – or more of a trailer than the sneak peek from SDCC.
While the trailer doesn’t fully sketch out the exact plot of the series, it’s evident that Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Game of Thrones‘ Finn Jones) returns to Manhattan years after he is thought to have died in a plane crash with his family in the Himalayas. He bears the dragon tattoo on his chest, wields the mystical powers of Iron Fist, and is ready to reclaim his family’s name and business – exacting justice on Harold Meachum (David Wenham), as well as the returning Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho). Just based on this first trailer, the fighting choreography might rival that of Daredevil. And the addition of fellow Game of Thrones alum Jessica Henwick as martial arts instructor and childhood friend Colleen Wing certainly helps.
Meanwhile, Jeph Loeb MCed the introduction of the cast of The Defenders at NYCC to a packed theater, and in addition to Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Danny Rand (Iron Fist), Loeb welcomed Sigourney Weaver to the stage as the as yet unnamed big bad of The Defenders.
Iron Fist hits Netflix on March 17, 2017, and The Defenders is set to drop in 2017. Judging based on the current Marvel-Netflix release schedule, my best guess would be mid-September to mid-October. And there’s also the solo Punisher series (now in production in New York) to keep in mind, but that might wait until after The Defenders drops.
