On paper, the duo of Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe isn’t an obvious one, but damn does it seem to be a glorious idea after watching the red band trailer for The Nice Guys.
The latest feature from director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3) stars Gosling as Holland March, a less than successful private eye, who is forced to team up with the intimidating “hired leg-breaker” Jackson Healy (Crowe), in order to solve a case of a missing girl and “the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star.”
The red band trailer does a good job of setting up the very Shane Black plot (who co-wrote the script along with Anthony Bagrozzi), and the hilarity that ensues with a mix of violent action. As unlikely as it is, the team of Gosling and Crowe seems to be a bit of genius casting, set to deliver some hilarious results. It looks like a grand old time (think Kiss Kiss Bang Bang mixed with a bit of Rush Hour and the old-school hilarity of Superbad), a perfect summer release for next year that I’m already itching to see.
The Nice Guys also stars Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger, Rachele Brooke Smith, and Ty Simpkins. It will be released on May 20, 2016. Enjoy the red band trailer below.
