Lo and behold! Audiences now have a second full-length peek at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before 2015 is done.
Fans have been dying for another look at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice since the initial SDCC sizzle reel and the tease during Monday night’s fall finale of Gotham. And since the film is out in March … there’s finally another theatrical trailer.
This second full trailer doesn’t set up the inciting conflict, but makes a tongue-in-cheek reference thanks to Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, who brings the two mild-mannered alter-egos together at a gala event. There are hints of Bruce’s (Ben Affleck) motivations – as Superman/Clark (Henry Cavill) leveled parts of Metropolis during his battle with General Zod (Michael Shannon), including a Wayne Industries building. Bruce’s history as Batman is brought up, part because of the contrasting news coverage of Batman as a vigilante and Superman as a savior and part because of Bruce’s “bad history with freaks dressed like clowns”.
While this second Batman v Superman trailer is drawing me in more, there’s something a little unsettling. Maybe it’s the slight cuts. Maybe it’s the official confirmation that Doomsday, although unnamed in the trailer, is appearing as an antagonist, despite circulating rumors that he would appear and circulating dismissals of these rumors. Maybe it’s Batman wielding a gun. Or maybe it’s the seemingly random appearance of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). At least DC’s trinity is together. As for the rest of the Justice League members set to appear – albeit cameo, as far as I’m concerned – in the film, they’re likely not to be seen until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016 from Man of Steel, Watchmen, and 300 director Zack Snyder.
