MONDAY MORNING RECAP

March 29th, 2015 – April 5th, 2015

We’re back from spring break! Introducing a new weekly segment, ‘Monday Morning Recap’, where we give you last week’s major stories in bitesized form. You know, in case you live under a rock.

1) ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Trailer to Debut Ahead of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

If there’s anything that gets me out of my dark basement battle station, it’s Marvel movies. The pot has only been sweetened now thanks to the Disney-centric relationship of both Marvel and Lucasfilm. The first proper trailer for Episode VII will screen ahead of (presumable) box office juggernaut Age of Ultron, coming on May 1st. Check out the final trailer for Age of Ultron here.

2) ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Trailer to Debut Ahead of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

Lots of trailer news. DC follows suit by announcing that the trailer for Batman v. Superman will screen ahead of upcoming Mad Max reboot, both of which are distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Probably a solid move; DC really needs to establish their cinematic universe in the minds of the audience to compete with Marvel’s, and Warner Bros. needs Mad Max to be a hit. Mad Max: Fury Road hits theaters on May 15th.

3) ‘Deadpool’ Officially Gets Rated ‘R’

Much to the delight of fans, Deadpool has officially been rated ‘R’. Over the course of the film’s lengthy development, the MPAA rating has been of much debate. Deadpool is known for his over-the-top, oft vulgar antics, and many fans worried that the studio would force a more-subdued ‘PG-13’ rating in order to expand it’s market.

4) Tron 3 Reportedly Titled ‘Tron: Ascension’

While just a minor tidbit/rumor, Production Weekly has indicated that the sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy will be titled Tron: Ascension. It’s been a while since Legacy came out, and Disney has had their hands full. While the sequel/reboot wasn’t quite initially the renaissance that fans were looking for, it did alright at the box office, and critical opinion has improved over time. It’s tie-in animated series, Tron: Uprising, had a very warm reception, featuring voice work by Elijah Wood. Filming will commence in Fall 2015, and no release date has been announced.
